Many taxidermists use a dry preservative but I prefer to use commerical tanning by Carolina Fur Dressing Co. By using a tannery, this helps to eliminate slippage of the cape (hair loss) and help preserve the cape for many years to come. FAQ:
Q: How long can a specimen be kept in a freezer before it is unusable?
A: With most animals 5 years is a good safe number, however, in many cases they can last much longer depending on the way the animal was wrapped up and cared for before freezing.
Q: My animal was damaged in the harvesting process, can you fix it?
|
A: In most cases yes, I feel that just about anything can be fixed. When I receive the specimen I will examine it and make a decision then.
Q: Do I have to bring the fish I caught for mounting?
A: No, all that is needed is a few simple measurements and some close-up pictures for the painting process.
Q: What sets Wild America Taxidermy above others?
A: I am a professionally licensed taxidermist that takes pride in every mount. I am also licensed by the state of NC and with the federal government. I use top of the line material on all mounts to create the best looking mount possible, and every mount will be completed in a timely manner.
